As you have read on our website, Isabel Marant has landed at Roan and its like a new life of inspirational harmony has begun. We’ve heard and read a million fabulous things about Isabel Marant’s collection but nothing beats the bubbling excitement that hits you when you play with these pieces IRL (in real life). Almost every article online and in print has commented on how she nails Parisian chic, effortlessly. All too true! With so many fun, airy blouses in sexy but subtle prints, and funky yet tailored jackets, picking a fave is painful. The embroidered navajo skinny jeans take the cake in my opinion. Navajo prints are everywhere you turn this fall from bags to jewelry and boots to ponchos. Putting the design on denim without getting too kitschy? Hard thing to do, and well, Isabel has done it. Thank you, Ms. Marant for perfecting the balance between modern bohemian and classic chic.

Finally a little relief from the summer swelter. That time of the year when it’s still hot but you don’t want to look like you are on your way to the pool is approaching. Along with school, meetings and the normal pace of life. We’re ready for this ever increasing moment of the wardrobe, fall colors/summer weights. Come in and check out the latest from Thakoon and A.L.C. for perfect transition clothes. Next week will mark the arrival of our first delivery from Rachel Zoe which is totally fun and surprisingly affordable. Ten years ago Apple brought us the iPod. it seemed as if over night everyone owned an iPod. Being musically mobile was not only a mere wish but now a beautiful possibility. No more the days of walkmans, cd cases, bulky headphones, and boomboxes. people became their own wedding/birthday/barmitzvah dj’s at the push of shuffle and play. Today more than 22 million Americans own an iPod. There are shoes that sync with your iPod. Clothes designed with specific pockets and outlets for your iPod. They have made their existence no longer a perk to life but a way of life. To say Apple didn’t start an infectious trend with the iPod is a mega understatement and they’ve done it again: the iPad. As if laptops weren’t convenient, slim, and smart enough and the iTouch and iPhone didn’t already bring the world to our fingertips. Apple trend sets again and the world follows suit. iPads are popping up everywhere from the coffee shop to happy hour, office to the shopping mall, and the train ride home to the airport terminal. So what’s next?

Listen UP! Need a little inspiration for your ears? Here is a sampling of what we ‘re hearing at Roan. I know not so new but G Love always finds a way to work in a good mood and gets everything going in the right direction. A bit more down and dirty but still tons o’ fun, try Eric Lindell or Donna the Buffalo. Lindell is a fave who occassionally passes through Va. on his way to and from New Orleans. Never too far from the blues, he still makes ya wanna love everybody and dance all night. I dare you to listen to “Two Bit Town” and not get all the way down! Donna the Buffalo is a group of talented musicians with rock, folk, reggae and funk all wrapped together by the dynamic Tara Nevins who plays everything from a viola to a washboard.
Feeling a little hipster? All the Roanies love Passion Pit and Santigold. Passion pit draws some sound and feel from 80’s bands like INXS and the Cure. Their electronica/pop style and their Cambridge, Mass. background grind out enough beats per minute to keep you steppin lively. Santigold (her real name is Santi White) is a private school girl from Philly who somehow makes punk and funk work together. Inspired by Devo and Blondie, she drops in like No Doubt or M.I.A. And if you feel the need for a little sunday morning chill, check out Eric Hutchinson. He is part Jack Johnson, part Paul Simon and a little Stevie Wonder.
