Jason Wu
“There’s something quite classic about what I do, but tweaked a little bit. It’s all about the contrast, like the classic pink feathered dress paired with an acid green belt.” – Jason Wu in W Magazine.
Jason Wu debuted his collection in 2006, emerging as one of the leading new American designers. “Wu celebrates the female form by emphasizing a woman’s hourglass silhouette while utilizing the most luxurious fabrications and detailing. Harking back to the days when women were always polished and styled to perfection, the Jason Wu collection aims to revitalize the art and perfection of dressing with a relaxed and youthful attitude” (www.jasonwustudio.com). Wu learned to sew, draft patterns, and sketch in fashion proportions at age 9 and by his senior year in high school, he was studying fashion in Paris.
In 2009, Wu made history when he designed a dress that Michelle Obama would wear to the Presidential Inauguration Ball. Recently, that dress joined 11 other dresses worn by first ladies in a gallery called “A First Lady’s Debut” at the Smithsonian.
